The best anniversary gifts for parents are never another "Mr and Mrs" mug. Those mugs and matching cushions fill every gifting site's anniversary section, and they end up in the glass cabinet right next to the last pair.

What actually gets them is something built out of their own marriage. The wedding photos nobody has opened in years, the VHS of the pheras, letters from the children they raised. Add one useful thing if you like. The rest is planning, and that's the part they shouldn't have to do.

So here are 19 ideas with rough prices in rupees, split into under ₹500 and handmade, the 25th (silver jubilee), the 50th (golden jubilee) and parents who have everything. After that there's a plan for the surprise at home, including how to run it from Dubai, London or New Jersey.

What to gift parents on their anniversary, by budget

Siblings usually pool for this one, so think in family budgets, not per head. The milestone matters too. A 25th couple is still working and travelling, while a 50th couple mostly wants the whole family in one room.

Under ₹500Best bet:Their wedding photo recreated, letters from every childSuits:Any year, student budgetsSkip:"Mr and Mrs" mugs and cushions
₹500 to ₹2,000Best bet:The wedding tape digitised, a small photobookSuits:25th, 30thSkip:Couple rings, because you'll guess the sizes wrong
₹2,000 to ₹10,000Best bet:Titan Bandhan pair watches, a hand-painted portrait, a couple spaSuits:25thSkip:Showpieces they will dust for years
₹38,000 to ₹68,000 for twoBest bet:A Bharat Gaurav pilgrimage trainSuits:50th, retired parentsSkip:A packaged foreign tour they never asked for
Pooled by the whole familyBest bet:A vow renewal at home with the grandchildrenSuits:25th and 50thSkip:A banquet-hall party that tires them out

Most people search for the cheapest end first, so that's where we'll start.

Anniversary gifts for parents under ₹500 (and handmade)

People search for this under ₹500, under ₹200 and even under ₹100, which tells you who's asking. Students and young earners, mostly. And the good news is that the best ideas here cost almost nothing.

1. Their wedding photo, recreated

Their wedding photo, recreated

About ₹19 a page

Get them into the exact pose from their wedding portrait. Mummy's dupatta over her head, Papa's hand on the chair, the same stiff studio smile. Then print the old and the new side by side for around ₹19 a colour page through Blinkit's print service, or as a Zoomin print.

You'll need one afternoon and a lot of their cooperation. Tell them it's for the family group, and save the side-by-side for the cake.

2. Letters from every child and grandchild

Letters from every child and grandchild

A pack of envelopes

Every child writes one page, and every grandchild writes or draws something. Want to go bigger? Do "letters for the next 25 years", one sealed envelope for each anniversary still to come. All it costs is a pack of envelopes, but start two weeks out, because the busiest sibling always writes last.

3. Their wedding card, reprinted as a jubilee invite

Hunt down their original wedding card. It's usually tucked into the back of the album. Scan it, keep the design and change the text to invite everyone to the 25th or 50th lunch, then send it on the family WhatsApp group and print one copy for them to keep. It costs nothing to about ₹20, and the aunties will love it.

4. Their wedding-day menu, cooked at home

Their wedding-day menu, cooked at home

The groceries

Ask Nani or the oldest relative what was served at the shaadi lunch, then cook it or get it from a local halwai. You only pay for the groceries. Do it while the person who remembers that menu is still around to taste it.

5. A memory jar from the whole family

A memory jar from the whole family

Free

Put in one slip for every year of marriage, so 25 or 50. Each relative writes down one memory of them as a couple, like the scooter rides, the first rented flat or the fights over the TV remote. Any jar from the kitchen will do. It's free, it just takes a week of chasing people.

6. A small photobook of the years before you

  • Zoomin Softcover Photobook (5.5 inch, 20 pages)₹359See it

Zoomin's little 5.5-inch softcover books cost about ₹359, and a 5 x 7 softcover is about ₹495. Here's the twist: use only photos from before the children came along. The rishta, the honeymoon, their first home. Order it a week ahead.

25th anniversary (silver jubilee) gift ideas for parents

A 25th this year means they got married around 2001. Think VHS and VCD, film-camera prints, and parents who are probably still working and still busy.

7. Their wedding video, digitised

Their wedding video, digitised

From about ₹500

Loads of Indian weddings from the 1990s and 2000s were filmed on VHS or VCD, and most homes don't even own a player anymore. One 2025 quote from Coimbatore was about ₹500 for the first hour of video and ₹400 for each extra hour, and some services in Delhi do pick-up and drop. Send the tapes off three to four weeks ahead. Then play the pheras on the TV after the cake and watch Mummy pretend she isn't crying.

8. Titan Bandhan pair watches

Titan sells these as a couple set. The Neo Bandhan is around ₹6,765, and the Bandhan Eternal pairs run about ₹6,895 to ₹8,495 depending on the strap and dial. Yes, matching watches are a little filmy. That's the whole point.

Does either parent already wear a watch they love? Then pick something else.

9. Silver, with a hallmark

Silver for a silver jubilee just makes sense: a puja thali, a pair of diyas or a coin for each of them. HUID hallmarking for silver began on 1 September 2025 under IS 2112:2025, which added the 958 and 999 grades. It started as voluntary, though some trade reports call it mandatory. Either way, ask the jeweller for a hallmarked piece and check the day's silver rate before you pay.

10. A hand-painted portrait from their wedding photo

One Jaipur studio on IndiaMART lists about ₹3,000 for a 13 x 19 inch painting and ₹5,000 for an A3 oil. Send them the sharpest scan you've got, and ask about the timeline before you pay. Give it at least three weeks. If their walls are already packed with frames, though, I'd pass on this one.

11. A couple spa afternoon

A 60-minute Swedish massage at Tattva Spa costs around ₹1,200 to ₹1,500 per person, and O2 Spa aromatherapy around ₹2,500 to ₹3,800, both bookable on magicpin. Book a couple's slot and drop them there yourself, because a lot of parents simply won't go if they have to arrange it. Some also find massages awkward, so check with them casually first.

50th anniversary (golden jubilee) gift ideas for parents

A 50th this year means a wedding around 1976. The photos are prints, often black and white, and the people who were actually at that wedding are now the rarest guests you could invite. Parents in their seventies want company and comfort way more than stuff.

12. A vow renewal at home

Redo the varmala and, if they're up for it, the pheras too, with the grandchildren as baraatis and the oldest relatives in the front row. It costs about as much as the lunch you serve plus the pandit's dakshina.

South Indian families already have a version of this, the Shashtiabdapoorthi, where the children re-perform the wedding on the husband's 60th birthday. Our guide to birthday gifts for dad covers that one. Either way, ask your parents first. Some love the idea, and some would honestly prefer to hide under the table.

13. Gold, checked for a HUID

Think a gold coin, a light chain or a ring for each of them. Hallmarked gold jewellery has to carry a 6-character HUID (mandatory since 1 April 2023), and you can check it yourself with "Verify HUID" in the BIS CARE app. Look up the day's gold rate before you pay, too.

14. A pilgrimage by Bharat Gaurav train

IRCTC's Bharat Gaurav tourist trains cost about ₹18,850 to ₹19,990 per person in sleeper and ₹31,920 to ₹33,995 in 3AC for 2026 departures. Meals, hotels and transfers are included, so nobody has to plan a thing. For parents in their seventies, please pay for 3AC, which comes to roughly ₹64,000 to ₹68,000 for two. And if one of them has just retired, these retirement gift ideas have more for that stage.

15. Health checkups for both

Not romantic, I know. Still, home-collection packages run from about ₹1,549 (Healthians) to about ₹6,500 (the larger Thyrocare packages) per person, and prices vary by city. Book a doctor to go through both reports the same week. Some families gift health cover too, but which policy to buy is a question for an adviser, not a gift list.

16. Video memories from the wedding guests

Video memories from the wedding guests

Free

Track down the people who were at the wedding and are still around. The Mama who handled the baraat, Mummy's college friend, the neighbour who lent the car. Ask each of them for a 60-second video story about that day. It's free, and I promise you'll hear things even your parents have forgotten.

For parents who have everything

When nothing in a shop makes sense, give them their own story back, or time together somewhere that matters to them.

17. A show of their marriage, on the TV

This one pulls everything above together: the album scans, the digitised wedding video, photos of the letters, the video wishes. Turn it into a show with episodes by era, like "The Wedding, 2001", "The Lucknow Years" and "Nana Nani Now", with a "Who's watching?" profile for each child and grandchild. Play it after dinner, then drop the link on the family group. Here's a sample anniversary show if you want to see one.

18. A trip back to where they honeymooned

Was it Ooty or Shimla? Book the same town and, if it's still standing, the same hotel. Costs depend on the place and the season. This is great for a 25th couple who still travel easily, but for a 50th, keep it to a short trip by train or car.

19. A family photoshoot, all generations

Book a photographer for the morning of the anniversary, at home or in a park, and get parents, children and grandchildren in the same frame. Prices vary by city, so get two or three quotes. Oh, and ask everyone to wear their wedding colours. It looks lovely in the photos.

How to plan the anniversary surprise at home

In most Indian homes the day already has a shape: a morning puja, relatives at lunch, and the family together in the evening. Plan around that, not against it.

3 weeks beforeWhat to do:Make a WhatsApp group without them, collect photos, send tapes for digitisingWhy then:Relatives are slow and digitising takes time
1 week beforeWhat to do:Order the portrait or watches, fix the guest list, book the panditWhy then:Leaves room for delays
Day before, by 7 pmWhat to do:Order the midnight cake (FNP delivers 11 to 11:59 pm on the date you choose, so pick the day before)Why then:FNP's cut-off for midnight delivery
Night beforeWhat to do:Decorate one room after they sleep (foil balloon kits start around ₹249 on BigBasket)Why then:They wake up to it
MorningWhat to do:Puja or havan at homeWhy then:Many families begin a jubilee this way
LunchWhat to do:Relatives arrive, with shagun in amounts like ₹501, ₹1,100 or ₹2,100Why then:Customs vary by community
After dinnerWhat to do:The reveal: letters, the wedding video or the show on the TVWhy then:The house is full and nobody is rushing

And one rule I'd never break: Mummy doesn't cook on her own anniversary. Order lunch from a local halwai or split the dishes among the aunts. Bas.

Planning the surprise from abroad

Living in the US, the UK or the Gulf? Then the hard part is the clock. Midnight in India falls in your afternoon or evening, a day early.

US East, summer (EDT)Midnight in India is:2:30 pm the day beforeFNP's 7 pm IST cut-off is:9:30 am
US East, winter (EST)Midnight in India is:1:30 pm the day beforeFNP's 7 pm IST cut-off is:8:30 am
UK, summer (BST)Midnight in India is:7:30 pm the day beforeFNP's 7 pm IST cut-off is:2:30 pm
UK, winter (GMT)Midnight in India is:6:30 pm the day beforeFNP's 7 pm IST cut-off is:1:30 pm
DubaiMidnight in India is:10:30 pm the day beforeFNP's 7 pm IST cut-off is:5:30 pm

Clocks change on 25 October in the UK and 1 November in the US this year, so double-check which row you're in.

  • FNP and IGP both take orders from abroad for delivery in Indian cities.
  • Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart need an Indian account with your parents' address added, and coverage varies by city.
  • Pick one pair of hands at home: a sibling, a cousin or a neighbour you trust, who'll receive deliveries, hide the cake and switch on the TV.
  • At the reveal, put your video call on the TV or a laptop. Not on a phone propped against a glass.

Collecting photos from abroad? Our page on an anniversary video for parents explains how to get the old albums photographed by whoever lives closest.

Mistakes to avoid

  1. "Mr and Mrs" mugs, cushions and frames. Every catalogue is full of them, and parents almost never use them.
  2. Couple rings. You'd have to guess two ring sizes right. You won't.
  3. A surprise that makes them host. If Mummy ends up cooking for 30 people, you didn't give her a gift. You gave her a chore.
  4. Gold or silver without a hallmark. The HUID is mandatory on gold. On silver, ask for it anyway.
  5. Anything that needs a setup they'll never do. An app-based gadget nobody configures goes back in its box within a week.
  6. Collecting photos in the last week. Old albums and relatives are both slow. Start three weeks out.

My pick

If you just want me to decide:

  • Budget under ₹500? Recreate their wedding photo and add a letter from every child.
  • 25th (silver jubilee)? Digitise the wedding video and play it after the cake. Throw in the Bandhan pair watches if you want something to unwrap.
  • 50th (golden jubilee)? A vow renewal at home, with video memories from the people who were at the wedding.
  • Parents who have everything? A show of their marriage on the TV, then a short trip back to their honeymoon town.
  • Living abroad? Order the cake by 9:30 am New York summer time, and send something they can open on the TV.
  • Siblings pooling ₹60,000 or more? A Bharat Gaurav pilgrimage in 3AC for both of them.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best gift for parents' 25th anniversary in India?

Honestly, the best silver jubilee gifts come from their own marriage: their wedding video digitised, letters from the children and a reveal after the cake. Want something to unwrap too? Titan Bandhan pair watches (roughly ₹6,800 to ₹8,500) or a hallmarked silver piece are both lovely for a 25th.

What should I gift my parents on their 50th anniversary?

At 50, company and comfort beat objects every time. A vow renewal at home, video memories from the people who came to their wedding, a pilgrimage by Bharat Gaurav train or health checkups for both are all great for parents in their seventies. If you buy gold, check the HUID.

What can I gift my parents on their anniversary under ₹500?

Recreate their wedding photo and print the old and new side by side, collect letters from every child and grandchild, or cook their wedding-day menu. If you'd like something printed, a small Zoomin photobook of their early years costs about ₹359 to ₹495.

How can I surprise my parents on their anniversary at home?

Decorate one room the night before, order a midnight cake by 7 pm the day before, and plan a morning puja and a family lunch. Save the big reveal (letters, the wedding video or a show of their photos) for after dinner, when everyone's home and nobody's rushing.

Do you buy your parents an anniversary gift?

Plenty of Indian families do, especially for the 25th and 50th, and usually it comes from all the children together. On other years a letter, a home-cooked meal or a dinner out is enough. What matters most is that the kids do the planning, not them.

What do you gift parents who have everything?

Give them their own story, or time together. Digitise their wedding video, turn their photos into something the family watches on the TV, book a trip back to their honeymoon town, or arrange a photoshoot with all the grandchildren.

How can I surprise my parents on their anniversary from abroad?

Order through FNP or IGP, which both take orders from abroad, and remember the 7 pm IST midnight cut-off is 9:30 am in New York during summer time. Ask a sibling or a neighbour to be your hands at home, and join the reveal on a video call on their TV.

Prices were checked on 3 October 2026 and change often, especially in sales. We don’t earn anything from these links.
